In 2012, began Makeshift Society, an organization which offers shared workspaces, camaraderie and resources to creative freelancers, independent business owners and small teams. Makeshift quickly drew attention from diverse corners of the Internet such as the Knight Foundation, Remodelista, HOW Magazine, Martha Stewart, Core77, Design Observer and Dwell, and was named an “influential hub of collaboration” in the SF Bay Area alongside Y Combinator and Stanford

She is also Market Editor at Anthology Magazine; previously,  owned Rare Device, a design-led retail store and art gallery which garnered mentions in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Real Simple and Food and Wine. Rena has worked with large and small makers, retailers and brands such as Branch, Creativebug, Etsy and Nest as a consultant on product placement and wholesale strategy.
